Q: what is included in the periop 101 course fee.
A: Periop 101 includes access to the didactic course through the AORN Learning Center and includes the following for each role:
Administrators (2 Seats)
- Register learners for your purchased seats.
- Access the Administrator Implementation Course, learner course modules, and supporting resources (e.g. skills labs checklists, final exam study guides, and more).
- Seats to Preparing the Preceptor (1-4 complimentary registrations included, depending on number of seats purchased).
- 6-month access upon course launch to complete the Preparing the Preceptor course and evaluation.
- 6-month access upon course launch to complete the online Periop 101 course, evaluation, and final exam.
- Complimentary one-year member-at-large AORN membership begins when the learner accesses the first module. If the learner is already a member, the free year will be added to the end of their current membership.
Periop 101 also includes printable handouts available within the Administrator Resources module and learner modules, Certificate of Achievement for administrator and learner courses, and Certificate of Completion for Preparing the Preceptor.
Q: What are the necessary requirements for the Periop 101 Administrator?
A: There are two requirements to be a Periop 101 Administrator:
- At least two years of clinical experience as a perioperative RN. CNOR certification is preferred but not required.
- Completion of the Administrator Implementation Course.

Perioperative Nursing
Become part of the surgical team as an operating room nurse! This comprehensive course has been designed to provide Registered Nurses a thorough introduction to perioperative nursing. AORN’s Periop 101: A Core Curriculum online program is combined with lab experience in a simulated operating room and a clinical practicum to give nurses a well-rounded training experience. Discover the skills in patient assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making needed for the nurse to provide safe care for the surgical patient. Upon completion, nurses will receive a Certificate of Completion from AORN and Anoka Technical College for all contact hours. Day shifts; 64 total hours; schedule determined with clinical site

Why Pursue a Perioperative Certificate?
As surgical care advances, so does the scope of nurses' responsibilities. Operating Room (OR) nurses are now referred to as Perioperative Registered Nurses to more accurately reflect their duties immediately before, during, and after surgery. Perioperative registered nurses are relied on for their professional judgment and critical thinking skills. They work closely with the surgical patient, family members, and other health care professionals. Perioperative RNs plan, implement, and evaluate treatment of the patient.

Program schedule.
Perioperative 101 Certificate candidates must hold an RN license.
- The next cohort begins September 17, 2025 through March 18, 2026 .
- Course meetings are Wednesdays, 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
- Most classes take place over zoom with (1) skill lab taking place at Curry’s Milton campus and (2) skill labs taking place at Boston Medical Center.
- Clinical will begin in Week 9 . You will engage in 192 hours (two 8-hour shifts a week over 12 weeks) of a precepted clinical experience with a perioperative RN in the OR; circulating and scrubbing (as clinical site can support).
